How to Find Recently Released Greene County Inmates
The Greene County Jail roster only lists current inmates. Once someone is released, they no longer appear. To confirm a release, you have a few options that work for local custody.
- Check the JailTracker roster first; if the name is gone, the person may have been released.
- Register for custody alerts through VINELink so you are notified when status changes.
- Call the jail at 417-868-4048 to confirm a recent release during business hours.
- For state prison releases, use the Missouri DOC offender search.
- For federal releases, use the Bureau of Prisons locator.
Note: Release timing depends on hold type, bond, shift changes, and meal times, so a person may still be in the building for several hours after a release is ordered.
Setting Up Release Notifications with VINELink
Missouri uses MOVANS, the state's VINE service, for custody-change notifications. The free service can alert a registered user by phone, text, email, or app when an offender is released, transferred, or has another status change. The public can register through VINELink.

| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| State | Dropdown / map | Yes | Select Missouri |
| Offender name | Text | One criterion | First and last name search |
| Offender ID | Text | Alternative | ID number if known |
| Facility / agency | Dropdown | Optional | Filter by reporting agency or facility |
| Registration method | Phone / email / text / app | Optional | For custody status alerts |
| Search | Button | n/a | Returns custody results |
Result fields include the offender name in alphabetical order, date of birth, age, custody status, the location or reason custody changed, and the reporting agency.
Searching Missouri State Released Inmates
People sentenced to state prison are held by the Missouri Department of Corrections, not the Greene County Jail. The Missouri Courts page linking to the DOC Offender Web Search points to the automated offender search and the public offender data file.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full name | Text | Recommended | DOC asks for full name and spelling |
| Inmate number | Text | Optional | Strong identifier |
| Date of birth | Date | Optional | Narrows the result |
| Search | Button | n/a | Runs the automated offender search |
The DOC search covers current offenders, including those on probation and parole. Discharged offenders are not in the active search, and some offenders may be excluded for safety or confidentiality reasons. The DOC also posts a current and prior offender data file updated nightly.
Searching Federal Released Inmates
Federal prisoners tied to Greene County cases are held by the Bureau of Prisons. The Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate locator covers people in federal custody from 1982 to the present.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Find by number | Tab | One method | BOP register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number |
| Type of number | Dropdown | Yes in number search | BOP Register Number format #####-### |
| Find by name | Tab | One method | Search by name |
| First and last name | Text | Yes in name search | Required for a name search |
| Race, age, sex | Dropdown / number | Optional | Narrows results |
| Search | Button | n/a | Returns matching offenders |
Result fields include name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. The BOP warns that release dates can change under First Step Act recalculations and that released persons may be under another jurisdiction.
Verifying a Release in Person or by Phone
If the online tools do not confirm a release, the jail can verify status by phone during business hours. The Sheriff's Office handles release processing at the Greene County Jail.
Greene County Jail
1199 N. Haseltine Road
Springfield, MO 65802
Phone: 417-868-4048
The after-hours lobby is closed, and people waiting for a release must wait outside until the person is escorted out. No releases happen during officer shift changes or inmate meal times.
Can the jail tell me the exact minute someone walks out? No. The jail gives general timing rules but not guaranteed release times. Cash-only and surety paperwork can take 2 to 4 hours, and a 24-hour hold, DWI hold, capias, or no-bond status all change the timing. The roster and VINELink alerts are the best way to monitor status without calling repeatedly.
Property and Funds at Release
When a person is released from the Greene County Jail, their trust account balance is issued on a debit card. The offender funds and commissary page explains the trust account, kiosk deposits, and the release debit card.

Some funds may be frozen for outstanding medical fees or property damage. Personal property goes with the inmate at release, and the jail does not hold property or mail after a person is released. A taxi voucher program can give a ride to released inmates with $20 or less who cannot reach anyone by phone.
The Missouri Sex Offender Registry
People released after certain offenses must register with the Missouri Sex Offender Registry, maintained by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The county sheriff verifies registrants. The public can search the Missouri Sex Offender Registry for free.
| Field Label | Type | Required | Notes / Format |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name | Text | One criterion | Last name or full name |
| Date of birth | Date | Optional | Narrows a common name |
| Address or ZIP | Text | Optional | Search near a location |
| County | Dropdown | Optional | Select Greene County |
| Map / radius | Map tool | Optional | Find registrants near an address |
| Search | Button | n/a | Returns registry profiles |
The registry profile typically shows the registrant's name, photo, address, offense, and physical description. The Greene County Sheriff is the local law enforcement agency that verifies registrants in the county.
Parole and Probation After Release
Many people released from state prison serve time on parole, and many people sentenced in Greene County serve probation in the community. The Missouri Department of Corrections supervises both. The DOC offender search shows whether a person is on active probation or parole.
Locally, Greene County Pretrial Services supervises non-violent defendants while their cases are pending. That program is separate from post-conviction parole, but both involve reporting, conditions, and notification of violations to the court.
Watch for Release Scams
Families of jailed and recently released people are sometimes targeted by phone scams. A May 2026 county press release warned of a phone scam aimed at families of Greene County Jail inmates. Real court and jail staff never call to demand payment or card information.
Important: If someone calls claiming a Greene County inmate needs money to be released, hang up and call the jail directly at 417-868-4048 to verify before paying anything.
Reentry Resources in Greene County
Release is the start of reentry. The county connects released inmates with a few practical resources. The Booking and Release page names Rapid Access at 800 S. Park Ave., Springfield, as an approved destination for the jail's taxi voucher program, which gives a ride to released inmates with $20 or less who cannot reach anyone by phone.
For legal help after release, Legal Services of Southern Missouri serves income-eligible Greene County residents in civil matters such as housing, benefits, and family law. The Missouri Department of Corrections also runs reentry programs for people leaving state prison, and the Missouri Job Center helps with work and training. People leaving the Greene County Jail can ask jail staff or a public defender about local reentry contacts.
Note: The jail issues a debit card for any trust account balance at release, so a released person should keep that card and the receipt for their funds.
Civil Rights Restoration After Release
A Missouri conviction can affect voting and other civil rights, but those rights can come back. In Missouri, voting rights are generally restored after a person finishes their full sentence, including probation and parole. A person is not eligible to vote while still serving any part of a felony sentence.
Because the rules turn on the exact status of a sentence, a released person should confirm their voting status with the Missouri Secretary of State and re-register if needed. Gun rights, jury service, and some licenses follow separate rules and may require a pardon or expungement to restore. The Greene County Court Records page covers the expungement framework that can clear qualifying records.
Privacy and Record Limits
Released-inmate data is public in part, but certain details are protected. The Missouri redaction statute, RSMo 509.520, requires personal identifiers to be removed from court filings.

Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and similar identifiers are masked in public records. Sealed or expunged cases drop out of public search entirely once a court grants the order.
